Park Hopping: Haw Creek Park

One day about two weeks ago, we met a good friend for an afternoon at the park.  We had a picnic at a park very close to her house: Haw Creek Park.  This is a great little park that doesn't seem to have much traffic.  We ate lunch in a nice pavilion, and then let the kids play on the playground while we caught up.

This is the best picture I got of the kids together!  I didn't tell them to be goofy, but I don't think they really wanted me to take their picture.

Haw Creek Park has three little playgrounds that each have nature themed play equipment.  All the pieces seemed to be made of concrete, but I am not sure of that.  The first area had a couple of large acorns and some fallen logs to climb and slide on.

The second play area had a lot of low to the ground concrete bugs and stones and logs set up in an oval.  The kids played follow the leader and don't touch the ground as the moved around this area.

The last area had most of it's sculptures set up in a circle, but it had the largest pieces of the three playground areas.  Kyle liked the large bear, while Avalyn really had fun on top of the hollow log that was larger than any tree I've ever seen.

Mercy had fun conquering the small bear.

And Keira was happy to have climbed on top of the smaller cave.

Mercy played peek-a-boo in the small cave.

We enjoyed the unique equipment at this park, but the kids said the sculptures were very hot to touch.  They played for a while, but got too hot to continue for long time.  I would like to go back to this park some time in the fall when the weather is cooler.

  1. That's good to know about the equipment. We'll go with you in the fall!
